A – Inflation – We can’t stop the increase of prices of goods over time. Historically inflation has been at 4-5% per year so keeping money in the bank over the long term isn’t a wise move because inflation is ‘eating your money’.
The stock market all over the world (including the Philippines) has given an average return of 12% per year for a 25-year historical period. So over the long-term your money is really better off “parked” in the stock market.
B – Retirement. We often underestimate the amount we need for retirement. And reaching that target is going to be very difficult (because of the effects of inflation again). That’s why you need to invest in order to overcome the effects of inflation.
C. Financial Freedom – If you start investing early enough, it’s very possible to just live on the interests and dividends in the stock market. And ultimately that is what will give you financial freedom.
